Description

Opened in June of 2018, the Farm on Ogden supports and sustains a healthy urban community by bringing food, health, and jobs together in one location. The multi use facility, located in the Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, is a project of the Chicago Botanic Garden and Lawndale Christian Health Center (LCHC). It consists of greenhouse, aquaponics and fish hatchery operations, teen-led youth farm, commercial and teaching kitchens, and community market space. The two partners take a “whole person” approach to community health and wellness. The Farm on Ogden is managed by Windy City Harvest, the Garden’s urban agriculture program, in partnership with LCHC. Windy City Harvest is the Chicago Botanic Garden’s urban agriculture education and jobs-training initiative to help build a local food system, healthier communities, and a greener economy.

Visitor Experience

Take a tour of the vegetable farm and aquaponic greenhouses, or drop in on a Youth Farm microgreen-growing demo or a VeggieRX cooking & nutrition demo that highlights how Lawndale Christian Health Center, UIC's Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion and Chicago Botanic Garden partner to support community health. Visitors can shop the market featuring produce from 13 Windy City Harvest farm sites as well as regional farms.
