Description

Completed in 1886 as a replacement for an earlier structure lost to the Great Fire, Church of the Ascension is an impressive example of the French Gothic style. Exquisitely carved statues, an elaborate marble and mosaic altar, intricate metal work in the rood screen, stained glass windows primarily crafted by Willet Studios, and more heighten the grandeur of the sanctuary, as does the magnificent 70-rank Berghaus/Schlicker organ along the back wall. Outside is a beautiful courtyard garden and fountain open to the public during daylight hours for prayer and reflection.

Visitor Experience

Visitors are welcome to explore the church and garden on their own, with docents available to answer questions. The nave will be open with annotated maps providing detailed information on the art and architecture within.

Special events offered during the weekend include organ demonstrations, an open choir rehearsal and a Solemn High Mass on Sunday morning. Light refreshments will be offered as well.
