Description

Boxville is Chicago's first (and only) shipping container market. What began in 2014 with one repurposed shipping container offering seasonal bike repair on a vacant lot at 51st Street and the CTA Green Line, has grown into a colorful collection of 22 containers offering an assortment of delicious food, local crafts, and a range of wellness products produced by local entrepreneurs within a fun and music-filled marketplace. Boxville received the inaugural MacArthur Foundation Placemaking Award in 2019 for its role in transforming 51st Street, and it continues to grow today.

Visitor Experience

Visitors will experience all of Boxville's active enterprises and "pop-up" vendors, as well as participate in some "inside-the-box" tours of shipping containers being converted to retail stores.
