Chicago and the Nation

President Barack Obama once called Chicago "that most American of American cities, one where one where citizens from more than 130 nations inhabit a rich tapestry of distinctive neighborhoods." In this itinerary, visit sites that exemplify Chicago's many architectural, historical, and cultural contributions to the Nation at large, on the occasion of America's 250th birthday. Each site includes a special artistic activation, performance, or visitor experience supported by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
