The doors to Chicago’s finest places and spaces don’t unlock themselves. This year we’d like you to meet the passionate, enthusiastic people who help us host the city’s biggest annual architectural festival: Open House Chicago.
Jerald Gary is the President and Chief Investment Officer of Community Capital Investment LLC, the property owner of the New Regal Theater. Jerald lived and went to school just a few blocks away from the theater and acquired the building shortly before allowing visitors inside during OHC 2014.
What is your favorite part about this site? Why should people see it?
I have many favorite parts, but at the top of my list is the enormous bejeweled “flying carpet” that adorns the lobby ceiling. People should see it because the level of detail in some of the building’s elements is really breathtaking.
What do you love about Open House Chicago? What was your favorite OHC experience?
I love that Open House Chicago gives people a chance to interact with spaces in communities they otherwise may not have visited. My favorite OHC experience was anonymously participating on our site tours and listening to what people said about the building.
What is the most unusual question you get asked by OHC visitors?
“Can I get on the stage?”
The Chicago Architecture Foundation’s partnership with the South Shore community is sponsored by Allstate Insurance Company.
