Threadless was founded in 2000. This unique company invites artists to submit original work to be printed on t-shirts and other products, then they allow the public to vote to select the winning designs. From nearly 1,000 designs submitted each week, 10 are selected for printing and sale—and the winning artists are paid. The Threadless headquarters was previously a shipping company depot. Now it houses offices and a warehouse that stocks thousands of t-shirt designs. Noted Chicago street artists have contributed work throughout the building. The whimsical reception area, covered in art, doubles as a photo studio, performance space, recreation room and showcase of past designs.
