Lake Point Tower
505 N. Lake Shore Dr., 70th Fl.
Schipporeit & Heinrich, 1968
There’s only one high-rise east of Lake Shore Drive, and the views from the top are unparalleled. The 70th floor of Lake Point Tower was originally intended to be a private club for building residents, but it was later transformed into the elegant Cité Restaurant. A blend of modernist design and rich traditional materials reflect the larger-than-life personality of the restaurant’s longtime owner. The restaurant wraps around the building’s core and conceals a full kitchen. The floor is made up of several distinct areas, including a lounge, banquet room, bar and dining room—each with their own signature touches. All of these spaces share an extraordinary view of the city and lake made possible by the building’s unusual location. It sits just west of Navy Pier but east of the rest of the skyline.
