Unity Church of Oak Park (Taylor House)
405 N. Euclid Ave.
George Maher, 1912
Legend has it that Frank Lloyd Wright declined the commission for the Taylor residence due to creative differences with the clients. The sumptuous, rectilinear Prairie-Style estate is a textbook George Maher design on a generous site. It was the family's home until 1963 when they sold it to Unity Church. The sprawling horizontal home includes large windows, a beautiful stair-wrapped foyer and decorative motifs throughout. Several additions have been made by Unity Church over the years including a sanctuary and sunlit atrium. The building serves as a center for spiritual living which includes Sunday services, educational programs for adults and youth, and prayer and healing services.
