The Union League Club, established in 1879, is one of the most prestigious membership organizations in the city. This 23-story clubhouse has amassed one of the nation's largest privately-held art collections including paintings, sculptures and antiques. It also features guest rooms, ballrooms, dining rooms, lounges, a library, a state-of-the-art health and fitness center and a swimming pool. The club's members have played a role in establishing many of the city’s major cultural organizations, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Orchestra Hall, the Auditorium Theater and the Field Museum. The members were also instrumental in having Chicago selected as the site of the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893.The interior features a breche violet marble entry, marble Grand Stairway, black walnut paneling and woodwork.
