Dobbins Group, 2017

After decades of helping cats find loving families, the Tree House Humane Society moved into a new, specially designed site in 2017. The building is home to eleven cat colonies, nine of which have access to outdoor enclosures. The whole complex is designed to be eco-friendly, with energy-efficient floor heating and extensive use of skylights. Tree House is also home to Chicago’s first in-shelter cat café, where patrons can visit adoptable cats with feline leukemia while enjoying a drink. The parking lot features a working outdoor feral cat colony. An on-site cat clinic is already functional and a new community clinic opened in 2021 in service of both cats and dogs.

Visitor Experience

Tree House invites you to learn more about their eco-conscious building—every inch of which was designed with cats in mind. While guests will not be able to interact with the cats during their visit, they'll have a chance to see behind-the-scenes in the shelter's veterinary clinic as well as other areas not typically accessible to the public.
