Description

Built in 1924, The Belmont by Reside was originally the Belmont Hotel. Designed in an elegant Georgian style, the building has seen its fair share of changes over the years, yet maintains its original prestige. The most unusual modification is the building’s parking garage, located in what was once a grand dining room, still graced with its original ornate ceiling. Entering from Sheridan Road is a marvelous experience, traversing an impressive procession of columns and pilasters dressed with vintage Adamesque embellishments, accented with a gallery of contemporary artwork. The American Room, historically the hotel lounge and bar, is a warm wood-paneled space where exhibits delve into the architectural and cultural history of the Belmont. Over many years, the hotel hosted a number of prominent guests for stays or special events, including boxer Rocky Graziano, gangster "Bloody" Angelo Genna, and future mayor Harold Washington.
