The tower that began in 2005 as a hotel project, finally finished in 2014 as OneEleven, a 60-story luxury apartment building on the river. Developer Related Midwest acquired the stalled project in 2012 and resumed construction on the partially-completed shell. The retrofit by Handel Architects added a glassy veneer, and an amenities level where the old and new building sections meet to make the integration seamless. The view from the amenity floor is among the city’s most dramatic. OneEleven, packed with amenities and sporting more than 500 apartments, led the current trend toward ultra-luxury rental towers.
