K.L.E.O. Community Family Life Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening families and providing a safe haven, through education, training, support and fun for people of all ages. Their new building in Washington Park extends the energy of the Arts Block west on Garfield Boulevard, with community spaces and retail on the ground floor and affordable apartments above. The form and massing of the building fit in with neighboring structures, but the colorful translucent façade intentionally stands out. It provides filtered daylighting for residents and artists on the inside, but glows at night as a beacon and catalyst for additional positive development in the area.
