HDR is a global design firm specializing in architecture, consulting and engineering services. HDR's Chicago architecture studio moved into the historic Inland Steel Building in 2015. The 19-story Inland Steel Building was the first skyscraper to be built in the Loop after the Great Depression. Its column-free layout, glass and stainless steel exterior and separate service core make it an iconic building.
Free architectural walking tours by Docomomo Chicago
Take a free walking tour of the Loop's iconic urban plazas with Docomomo Chicago, beginning at the Inland Steel Building.
The tour will be offered twice on Saturday and head to places like the Chicago Federal Center and the James R. Thompson Center. Both tours will be led by landscape architect Michael Finn, Illinois State Museum curator Doug Stapleton and JPMorgan Chase Art Collection curator Jason Molchanow.
