Description

The Neoclassical style Austin Branch Library was designed by Alfred S. Alschuler, a Chicago architect known for such buildings as the London Guarantee Building (now LondonHouse Chicago Hotel) and KAM Isaiah Israel in Hyde Park, among many others. Dedicated in 1929, this impressive building features its original decorative columns and interior moldings. Several renovations, the most recent completed in 2018, bring this historic branch library up to date, while also revealing a previously painted over skylight.
