Description
Inside Mana Contemporary’s historic building, designed by architect George Nimmons, you will find dozens of artist studios, exhibition spaces, a central cafe, a library and more. The red-brick former Commonwealth Edison warehouse and tower now serves many of the city’s most significant arts organizations and artists of diverse disciplines—including painters, sculptors, photographers, performers, and artist-led collectives. This unique and growing campus-like environment provides a supportive atmosphere for artists and offers opportunities for unique public engagement with their practices.
Visitor Experience
Regina Martinez's installation 'overhearings' will be available for listening during Mana Chicago open hours. 'overhearings' is a site specific sound installation created in response to the Peregrine Falcons who have resided at Mana Contemporary for over two decades. This two-channel work will be located in the recesses of Mana's 4th floor restroom area. This work is commissioned by Experimental Sound Studio, Monira Foundation and Mana Contemporary, and is supported in part by BrightSign.
'Jonas Mekas: Open Archives' will be on view in the 5th floor gallery, featuring artifacts, items, and memorabilia from Mekas' personal archives. 'Jonas Mekas: Open Archives' is proudly presented by Monira Foundation.
