Description

Founded in 1989, Chicago Printmakers Collaborative (CPC) is the city's longest running independent printmaking workshop. The workshop occupies the former Penn Dutchman Antiques building, recently renovated specifically for this medium with natural light pouring through its skylight, larger spaces around the presses, new artist studios, equipment upgrades and a rooftop deck.

Promoting the art of handmade printing through affordable shop access, classes, workshops, lectures and exhibitions, CPC provides facilities for traditional print media, including etching, stone lithography, relief, book arts and screen printing. The CPC gallery features fine art prints from around the world. some of the finest printmaking created both locally and internationally. Visitors can view work on the walls while artists create and pull prints from the presses.

CPC has something special in store for OHC 2023! In addition to watching Chicago artists demonstrate Etching and Screenprinting and seeing the prints revealed as they come off the press and pulled through screens, visitors will also have the opportunity to make something themselves to take home to remind them of all the printy excitement. Artists Dennis O'Malley and Hiroshi Ariyama both feature Chicago Architecture in their hand made prints. Dennis will be hand coloring his architectural etchings that CPC staff pull from the press, while Hiroshi demonstrates his signature, multi-layer screen printing technique. Visitors can watch, film, and ask questions about the process and get to know each artist's beautiful work. OHC Guests from past years have been known to clap and cheer after every print reveal! The entire space will be open to visitors, including the printmaker party deck on the roof, festooned with string lights and snacks (weather permitting). CPC Director Deborah Maris Lader will be on hand to guide visitors through the space and answer questions.
