Description

Carr Chapel (also known as the "God Box") is Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's only religious project. It's also his only masonry building on the Illinois Tech campus. The small non-denominational chapel draws international interest because of its historic importance and remarkable architectural simplicity. Though the building lies outside the boundaries of the Illinois Tech Campus National Register Historic District, its restoration began in 2008 and was completed in 2013.

Visitor Experience

Carr Chapel will be open for self-guided tours, and an optional guided walking tour will take visitors between the chapel, S.R. Crown Hall, and the IIT Kaplan Institute at 11 a.m.
