Description

Common Pantry is Chicago’s oldest continually operating food pantry, committed to providing emergency food and social services to individuals and families in the community. In August 2023, Common Pantry moved into their own building, for the first time in their 56-year history they have their own space. Designed by Wheeler Kearns Architects, it is a welcoming, accessible space with ample light for visitors. The facility features a large dining and communal space, a commercial kitchen used for the weekly hot lunch program, a grocery shopping area, and an outdoor courtyard. Pre-pandemic, Common Pantry served about 300 households a month but now averages about 800 households a month.

Common Pantry will have recipe cards that showcase some of the diverse dishes that we have served for our weekly hot lunch. The recipes will be available in our kitchen.

Visitor Experience

The entire building and courtyard will be open to the public with the exception of staff offices and storage areas. Visitors can expect a self-guided experience with information about the space posted throughout.
