DETAILS:
One of Chicago's greatest historic skyscrapers, the Monadnock was completed in two halves: the 1891 northern half was designed by Burnham and Root, and the 1893 southern half was designed by Holabird and Roche. The different parts of the building are supported by unique combinations of masonry and steel structural elements that demonstrate the rapid evolution of building design during the early days of high-rise construction.
